The Sabily team has just developed a useful jabber bot: the Muezzin bot, which is able to send you Instant Messages when it is time to pray. It can also display the prayer times of the day.

To use it, it's very simple, just add " Ev e-mail ji ber spambots hatîye parastin, ji bo dîtina vê gerek JavaScript vekirî be " to your contact list. You should use a jabber compatible client software, like google GTalk or Pidgin (which is installed by default on Sabily).

Then you could configure your location, prayer times calculation method etc. by sending "configure" to the bot; you could check the daily prayer times by sending "times". Send "help" to display the full list of available commands.

And thanks to PrayTimes.org, an Islamic project aimed at providing an open-source library for calculating Muslim prayers times, on which the Muezzin bot has been developed.

Here is a sample of how to use the Muezzin bot with pidgin:

  • Add " Ev e-mail ji ber spambots hatîye parastin, ji bo dîtina vê gerek JavaScript vekirî be " to your contact list:

  • Type 'configure':

  • You can easily configure your location by clicking on a map:

Here, the calculation method has been set to "UOIF, France"

  • Then you can ask the bot the daily prayer times, and you will receive Instant Messages when it is time to pray:
